World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released a report on April 27 that a plant which has the effect of treating or curing cancers, AIDS and malaria has found in the rain forest of Borneo.
Several medicinal plants found in Borneo
This report points the research persons of an Australian pharmaceutical company find an anti-cancer substance in a shrub of Borneo; furthermore, a chemical substance being seemingly able to effectively prevent reproduction of AIDS virus has also been found in the sap of a tree in this region, as reported by Router on April 27.
The report points that the research persons have found a previously unknown substance in the bark of this tree, and this substance can kill malaria parasite in body according to test.
In the past 25 years, people had found 422 new plants in Borneo. In addition, many other plants here are considered as may have medicinal value, the report added.
An investigation involved with 2000 British men made by UK Cancer Research Institute previously shows that nearly 60% of them never check their skin on their back, say nothing of checking whether there is any new nevus or what change the existing nevi have. Though many people under investigation admitted they had the experience of sunburn, about 70% of them said they did not consider them in the danger of skin cancer. The investigation also shows that the men below 24 and above 65 are more unwilling to see a doctor than other people if they found any change about nevi. Harwood said: ”early finding of malignant tumor means a patient can accept better treatment and obtain better living opportunity.”
Therefore, this institute reminded people paid more attention to their skin changes, and found whether there would be any new nevus coming out and observed its change. |
